Different individuals may experience widely varying opportunities to pursue in-depth workplace on-the-job training in the Pilates world, often depending on geographic location, proximity to a participating studio, financial security, socioeconomic status, race, gender, personal relationships or myriad other situational factors. Because of this, Via Pilates has chosen to provide a structured Apprenticeship Program open to Balanced Body Pilates Teacher Trainees who participate in a majority of their training modules with Via Pilates during their pre-certification process. Via Pilates offers a structured, competency based 12-month paid apprenticeship opportunity for Balanced Body teacher trainees in order to provide a supportive practice-based learning environment for motivated Pilates instructors-in-training.

The primary goal of the Via Pilates Apprenticeship Program is to provide an experiential environment which can help launch successful Pilates careers. The Apprenticeship will help prepare the trainee for his/her comprehensive Pilates test-out and will deepen their understanding of the Pilates method. In addition, he or she will be trained in rehabilitation-based Pilates and movement techniques that would be useful and applicable in any working Pilates studio situation.

  • Apprentices gain realistic expectations about client, employer and studio demands, needs and rewards.

  • With real-world experience, the Apprentice will often have a competitive advantage when job-seeking.

  • Even if the apprenticeship does not become a regular position with Via Pilates, the Apprentice will enlarge his/her network of contacts in the Pilates world and will build valuable relationships for his or her future career.

Most Trainees in any Pilates certification program have “found” Pilates instruction as a second, third or fourth career. Many come from non-traditional backgrounds, some come from professional careers, some are home-makers, some are students, some are dancers, some are rehab patients, some are Pilates clients, some are physical therapists. Exposure to Pilates, to teaching movement, and to prior training in Balanced Body’s Pilates modules will vary.

Individuals selected as Apprentices are chosen based on the following qualities:

  • Dedication. This includes to learning Pilates through the Balanced Body comprehensive teacher training program, to his or her personal practice, to practice teaching and observation, etc.

  • Growth mindset. Is the trainee committed to his or her growth and development as a Pilates professional? Is the individual interested in undertaking the necessary continuing education throughout his or her career?

  • Grit. Individuals must be able to overcome the challenges set before them and learn to problem-solve in a fast-paced studio environment with exceptional standards, and we support you 100% of the way and beyond!

  • Communication skills. Working with clients is, of course, essential, but so is working with part of a team within any business and within the larger Pilates community.

  • Potential for success. Availability to assist and teach some classes and private sessions at the studio during studio hours is required. An interest in working at a small studio with a more rehabilitative focus is important.

Individuals selected to join Via Pilates Apprenticeship Program become paid employees of the studio as is required by law and are entitled to the same protections and rights of other employees under federal statutes, including but not limited to equal opportunity employment, anti-discrimination and anti-harassment legislation, and wage and overtime laws.

Applications are accepted on a rolling basis depending on studio need and space availability in the program.
